Thunder Bay Announces Five Original Documentaries To Attract Chinese Newcomers

Wednesday December 13, 2017: Several local organizations have come together in Thunder Bay to conceive and premiere five documentaries focused on attracting Chinese newcomers to the region. The initiative was led by the MovetoNorthwesternOntario.ca project in partnership with FedNor Canada, Tourism Thunder Bay, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership (OTMP) and Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) with Fairchild Television Network.

The five documentaries are currently premiering on Fairchild Television to Chinese audiences in Canada and in 40 cities across China. The documentary slate includes interviews with entrepreneurs, businesses, newcomers, international students, tourism operators and community organizations across Thunder Bay & District.

Cathy Woodbeck, Executive Director of Thunder Bay Multicultural Association comments; “This series presents Thunder Bay and local opportunities in a modern way for a new generation of Chinese newcomers. We wanted to showcase the unique lifestyle, business and career opportunities available in this region, specifically targeted at Chinese populations in Canada and overseas. We are thrilled with the final series and are grateful to the dozens of local people, businesses and organizations who participated in interviews, provided tours and testimonials to tell Thunder Bay’s best story.”

The Thunder Bay series is narrated in Chinese with all local interviews available for viewing in English. The five-documentary line-up includes:

  • Episode 1 – Opportunities in Thunder Bay
  • Episode 2 – Entrepreneurs in Thunder Bay
  • Episode 3- Chinese Community in Thunder Bay
  • Episode 4 – Tourism in Thunder Bay
  • Episode 5 – Food in Thunder Bay
