Work Experience
Having work experience can really help you get a job. Most employers will ask about your work history and typically prefer to hire candidates with previous work experience in Canada.
There are many ways to gain work experience in Northwestern Ontario. It can be unpaid and commonly involves internships or volunteering. If you’re accepted as an intern or volunteer, you will also need to pay your own expenses for travel, accommodation and other living costs.
If you study at a postsecondary institution, your local college or university will be able to provide more information about internships. Local government offices may also have a list of available internship opportunities.
Volunteering is also a great way to gain work experience and get more involved in your new community. Contact a local charity or not-for profit organization directly about volunteer positions.
