Northwestern Ontario is a world leading region for mining and exploration.  This area is known for its variety and great quantity of mineral resources including gold, silver, diamond, nickel, palladium and chromite.

There are currently seven active mining sites located in or close to several Northwestern Ontario municipalities including:

In addition to the current active mines, large mineral deposits have been recently found in Northwestern Ontario. An area known as The Ring of Fire has been discovered north of Thunder Bay and is said to hold some of the richest minerals in Canada including the largest chromite deposit in North America.

There are exciting job prospects in the region's six active mines as well as in the development of new mineral deposits.  Experts predict over 3,000 new jobs will be created in the mining industry in coming years. A career in mining is high paying and offers challenging work environments.
