Regulated Professions
Newcomers are free to pursue their trade or profession in Northwestern Ontario as long as no specific federal or provincial qualifications are required to access the profession (these professions are known as unregulated).
Access to certain professions, particularly health professions, is restricted to holders of specific qualifications or licenses (these are known as regulated professions). Other commonly regulated professions include: teaching, law, accounting and engineering.
Regulated professions require accreditation and registration with an appropriate regulatory body, which involves a formal process to evaluate the qualifications that you received outside of Canada.
There are currently more than 30 regulated professions and 20 regulated trades in total. It is your responsibility to check the requirements of your chosen profession before you start work in Northwestern Ontario.
